Mortgages for the self employed often to be called self cert mortgages are available in today's market, there are distinct differences between a self employed mortgage and a self cert mortgage which we will hopefully explain here.
A self cert mortgage, years ago used to mean the borrower 'self certified' his income and no proof of income was required, the practice of self certifying your own income for mortgage purposes doesn't happen any more, lenders will always want proof of income or at the very, very least proof of self employment.

- You have been trading for at least 12 months
- You have an accountant with at least 1 years accounts
- You do self assessment - even if you submit your tax assessment yourself
